8 Year Cycle comes in Full Circle!
Today marks 8 years since the birth (June 25th, 2017) of the Black Lesbian Archives! A seed that sprouted from my own curiosity and longing to know myself more deeply as a Black Lesbian, and to find others who shared that journey.
What started as a personal question…. “Where are our stories?” has since grown into a living archive: a space of connection, memory, resistance, and discovery! From zines and exhibitions to memory capsules and digital maps, this project has taken shape in so many forms! And it’s all been possible because of y’all!
Thank you for believing in this vision.
Thank you for showing up, sharing, and archiving with me.
Thank you for trusting me with your stories.
We still in motion!
And we still just getting started.
From the very first Black Lesbian Archives exhibition in Chicago. That moment changed everything! Little did I know this would plant the roots for what this archive could become.
In the years ahead, I hope to break even more ground crafting creative, communal, and sovereign ways for us to share our stories, hold memory, and archive our presence on our own terms. In new ways!
Here’s to the past, the present, and everything still to come.
With so much Love….thank y’all!
